Clarion’s MiND - Half Nav, Half Amazing!

Clarion MiND

Question my 12v Fan, can you check your MySpace with your Navigation unit? No? You don’t get e-mail on it either? Perhaps take pictures? Shame!

Pretty soon, all the navigations of tomorrow will just be tiny portable touchscreen all-in-one computers, which technically Clarion’s new MiND is. MiND features a 5.3″ wvga lcd touchscreen, capable of 800 x 480 pixels of bliss. Access to 12vblog.com via browser and WiFi built in, and built on a Linux OS. It even has a built-in Camera on it. The only thing this thing can’t do is place calls…. technically, but with built in Bluetooth and Microphone, it can through your phone. Oh yea, did we mention it does the whole Navigation thing too?

Other specifications include:

  • Intel Menlow (Based on Silverthorne processor and Poulsbo Chipset)
  • 256MB DRAM
  • 4GB Flash Memory for Storage
  • WiFi
  • GPS Antenna/Receiver
  • Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery
  • Amplifier
  • Speaker
  • Headphone Jack
  • 3G Data Module (Future Capability)
  • Mobile WiMAX (Future Capability)

The price?? We’d like to know as well. By far, this just might be one of the most all-inclusiveportable navigation units we’ve seen thus far. We’ll keep you posted on any updates.

Sony refreshes it’s Nav-U GPS line - Adds NV-U73T and NV-U83T

Sony's Nav-U83t

Sony has added the NV-U73T and U83T to their portable navigation offerings, which are available to pre-order right now as we speak. The U83T (pictured above) sports a 4.8″ touchpanel widescreen display, with the smaller sibling, the U73T (pictured below), getting a 4.3″er. The main feature difference between the two is the Bluetooth Handsfree capability and POSITION Plus is standard on the 83T. What is POSITION Plus you say?

In addition to the SiRF Star III GPS chip, POSITION Plus includes a pressure sensor, gyro sensor and an acceleration sensor. The nav-u device uses these additional sensors to calibrate where drivers are so they can safely plan ahead and won’t miss turns coming out of tunnels or from in-between tall buildings.

Other features shard by both units include a Text To Speech capability, Gesture Command, and access to Real Time Traffic Information channel.

Sony's Nav-U73t

Pre-order price for these units are $499 and $349 respectively. They are slated to be available on or around 02/22/2008. Looks wise, this unit sure is a beauty

Read on for additional pictures and the full press release.
